Virus Hideout
The mosquito-borne virus chikungunya, affecting about 3 million a year globally, can cause long term arthritis, among other complications. On infection, macrophages – large cells of the immune system – are chikungunya reservoirs which can be reactivated. This study reveals the molecular mechanisms of entry, production and spread of the virus in and from macrophages
