Can we tango away our ills? Foxtrot our way to better health? Dance provides exercise of body and mind and a unique platform for social bonding; could this contribute to the medical progress of the next 100 years? Asked to share his hopes and fears for the future with Strictly Science – the ten-day exhibition in London celebrating the past, present and future of medical research – choreographer Bruno Tonioli envisages a world that has embraced the healing power of dance. Perhaps if the whole world could move in harmony to the same tune, it could find a balance of peace and health. Great dance requires cooperation and understanding between participants. This spirit, Bruno hopes, might be globally embraced to cure the greatest ‘disease’ of all – fear and ignorance.

BPoD stands for Biomedical Picture of the Day. Managed by the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences until Jul 2023, it is now run independently by a dedicated team of scientists and writers. The website aims to engage everyone, young and old, in the wonders of biology, and its influence on medicine. The ever-growing archive of more than 4000 research images documents over a decade of progress. Explore the collection and see what you discover. Images are kindly provided for inclusion on this website through the generosity of scientists across the globe.
BPoD is also available in Catalan at www.bpod.cat with translations by the University of Valencia.
