To reliably measure tiny fissures in different kinds of minerals, for comparison the approach must be able to map the pristine surface in the same way as the defective. In this study of micro-scale cracks in teeth enamel, imaging with X-ray μCT and photoluminescence spectroscopy, with the tooth covered in a 3D surface mesh for spatial registration makes this possible
