This study presents biochemical tools that allow components of the cell's inner scaffold or cytoskeleton called vimentin intermediate filaments to be rapidly manipulated inside the cell, as a whole or in specific regions, by means of chemicals or light (optogenetics). This approach enables study of the relationship between vimentin and other cell structures
