Fungal Fend-off
The intestinal microbiome fungus Candida albicans can dominate after antibiotic treatment and can be life-threatening, for example for leukaemia patients. This study in mice demonstrates that reduced oxygen levels (hypoxia) of the gut lining cells maintains resistance to C.albicans growth and this could be achieved with the drug 5-ASA
